"As up-and-coming artiste, I attended events without performing" –Bad Boy Timz

Fast rising Nigerian act and the headies rookie of the year winner, Bad BoyTimz in an interview with Sunday scoop revealed his struggles before he rose to stardom.

Few years back, Olorunyomi Oloruntimilehin, aka Bad Boy Timz, was just another up-and-coming artiste, praying for fame and fortune to smile on him. Fast forward to 2021, the singer is gradually climbing the ladder in the music industry.

With the fame he has got so far, it has also come with increased attention from ladies.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the Headies ‘Rookie of the Year’ winner recounted a weird experience he had with a female fan.

He said, “My weird experience with a female fan was when I went to Edo State for a show. During my performance, I noticed a particular girl who was seemed very excited to see me.

After my performance, we went to the club and when she saw me, she just started screaming. I was scared because I thought something had happened. She just wanted to meet me and I told her to relax. That was only when she calmed down.”

Speaking on some of the challenges he faced in the early days of his career, Timz said, “Getting recognition was a challenge I faced when I started. No one makes music just for themselves.

They make it for people to relate with and understand. I attended many shows as an up-and-coming artiste and I never got the opportunity to perform. That alone can break one’s spirit but I did not allow that to break me.”

Revealing how he came about the name ‘Bad Boy Timz’, he said, “Timz is a combination of two of my names Timileyin and Timothy. I then added ‘Z’ for the swag. Nigerians like ‘swaggalicous’ names. The Bad Boy  is also a way of adding extra swag to the name.

The singer also maintained that he felt happy receiving a Headies award. He added, “Headies is one of the most prestigious music awards in Africa. Bagging the Headies ‘Rookie’ award means a lot to me, and even my family. We are excited for the future because we know that with this recognition, it is possible to get more. I am happy for the future of afrobeats and for myself.”
