President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerians and the global community to pray for the Catholic spiritual head, Pope Francis, as he undergoes surgery.

Mr Buhari, who has a history of repeated foreign medical trips and protracted ill health, sent a get-well message to Pope Francis, said his media aide, Garba Shehu.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a get-well message to the Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, as he heads in for a scheduled surgery of the colon.

“The President called for prayers from Nigerians and the global community as the Pontiff goes in for this routine operation.

“He wishes him a quick recovery,” said Mr Shehu in a statement yesterday.

Recently, President Buhari postponed his visit to London for a medical checkup.
